James 1:5-8 (NIV):5 If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. 6 But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. 7 That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. 8 Such a person is double-minded and unstable in all they do.”

What Does It Mean To Have Double-Minded Faith?

Wisdom doesn’t just refer to knowledge here, but God-given insight on how to live, especially during trials. God gives His wisdom generously to those who honestly seek Him with an open and faithful heart. A doubting person is someone who isn’t fully committed to trusting God, they have divided loyalty split between God and themselves, luck, the world, etc. A life built on mixed trust will be spiritually unsound in all areas.

It is comforting to know that God gives generously, yet challenging to accept that you must ask with full faith in Him.

Now Let's Pray

Dear Heavenly Father thank You for the gift of a right relationship with You, and the opportunity to seek You with full faith. I pray that we lean away from divided loyalty and put our full trust in your sovereign plan and goodness. Thank You for testing us like a father, and building our character through trials.

In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
