Age Is Not A Disqualifier

1 Timothy 4:11–12 (NIV): “11 Command and teach these things. 12 Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.”
How Can I Rise To My Kingdom Calling?
Here, Paul is writing to Timothy - a young pastor overseeing the church of Ephesus. Timothy faced resistance not because of what he was preaching, but his age and authority.
We are called to lead boldly and faithfully in the name of Jesus. Leadership in the kingdom isn’t option when God calls on you, and age is definitely not a disqualifier. Your spiritual maturity validates your ministry - a young person’s authority comes from the Word, their walk with God, and their spiritual anointing.
Influence is achieved by modeling the heart of Jesus, rather than asserting control. Speech, conduct, love, faith, and purity are areas that we are called to align ourselves with Jesus. This takes both discipline and maturity - and because we are NOT Jesus, we can’t expect ourselves to be perfect.
Now Let’s Pray
Dear Heavenly Father thank You for calling us to such high standards, yet having grace and mercy on us when we do not always rise to the occasion. Remind us daily that the calling on our lives is a testament to our spiritual maturity, not our physical age. As we develop in our faith, push us to align our will with Yours, and fully allow the Spirit to dwell inside of us and diminish our flesh.
In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
