Revelation 1:13–16 (NIV): 13 …and among the lampstands was someone like a son of man, dressed in a robe reaching down to his feet and with a golden sash around his chest. 14 The hair on his head was white like wool, as white as snow, and his eyes were like blazing fire. 15 His feet were like bronze glowing in a furnace, and his voice was like the sound of rushing waters. 16 In his right hand he held seven stars, and coming out of his mouth was a sharp, double-edged sword. His face was like the sun shining in all its brilliance.”

The Glorious, Resurrected Jesus

When Jesus speaks to John in the book of Revelation, He is no longer a humble servant born in a manger. He appears with human, yet glorified characteristics - “someone like a son of man.”

The robe and sash: Royalty and priesthood - Christ is the eternal King and High Priest.

Hair white like snow & wool: Jesus is wise and pure, morally perfect.

Eyes like blazing fire: He has penetrating vision and the most righteous judgement. Nothing is hidden from His sight, He sees right through facades and deception.

Bronze feet in the furnace: Bronze is a strong metal that undergoes purification in fire. Jesus walks in this divine justice and purity.

Voice of rushing waters: His voice is overwhelmingly powerful, nothing can stop its rushing strength, it commands attention and creates life.

Sharp double-edged sword: This is the Word of God, representing eternal truth and judgement. It cuts, convicts, judges, calls us higher, and offensively defeats the enemy.

Face like the sun: God’s glory is radiant, blinding, and beautiful. He is the light.

Now Let's Pray

Dear Heavenly Father thank You for Your glory. You are perfect, pure, convicting, captivating, and righteous. Thank You for Your promise of eternal communion and revealing to us the smallest fraction of Your glory in this lifetime. Remind us daily that Your church is a lampstand, projecting light in a dark world.

In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
