Matthew 14:29–30 (NIV):29 Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. 30 But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, ‘Lord, save me!’”

How Can I Step Out In Faith?

Peter is often criticized here for sinking, yet he is the only disciple who left the boat. He responded to God’s call to “come” into the supernatural, while the other disciples stayed in the safe, comfortable boat. In response to this call and by God’s strength, Peter successfully walks on water with his eyes locked on Jesus.

The wind doesn’t suddenly appear, it was always there. Just like when we focus our attention on our circumstances instead of Christ, we will also start to sink as fear takes over. Even as Peter fails, he knows exactly who to call on, and Jesus responds immediately as he rescues him from the water. A lack of faith and failure does not disqualify us from God’s protection, we are called to seek Him in these moments, too.

Now Let’s Pray

Dear Heavenly Father thank You for always being the peace during the storm. Remind us that our faith in You will always prevail over our circumstances, and that running to You during difficult times is always the answer. You are our refuge.

In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
