Hebrews 2:16-18 (NIV): 16 For surely it is not angels he helps, but Abraham’s descendants. 17 For this reason he had to be made like them, fully human in every way, in order that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in service to God, and that he might make atonement for the sins of the people. 18 Because he himself suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.”

How Does Jesus Help Us When We’re Tempted?

Jesus didn’t come to save angels, in fact angels are “ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation” (Heb 1:14). He came to help Abraham’s descendants. To truly represent humanity, God had to put on flesh and become fully human in every way. Anything that you have felt (joy, love, friendship, pain, fear, rejection, temptation, grief, loneliness…), the God of our universe has felt it too. He understands our struggles and is able to help us when we are tempted. Through His humanity, He defeated death, freed us from fear, and now serves as a compassionate high priest who understands and helps us in our weakness.

Now Let’s Pray

Dear Heavenly Father thank You for sacrificing Your one and only son for the forgiveness of our sins. Remind us that Your time on earth was filled with struggle and temptation, and that You can relate to our circumstances and provide refuge in all situations. Lead us to a life where we honor You in every way.

In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
