Hebrews 9:24–26 (NIV): “24 For Christ did not enter a sanctuary made with human hands that was only a copy of the true one; he entered heaven itself, now to appear for us in God’s presence. 25 Nor did he enter heaven to offer himself again and again, the way the high priest enters the Most Holy Place every year with blood that is not his own.”
What makes Jesus the Eternal High Priest?
Jesus’ sacrifice creates a new way for us to approach God - not through rituals, but through faith in Christ. In the Old Testament, the tabernacle had three main areas: the outer court, the Holy Place, and the Most Holy Place. Only the high priest could enter the Most Holy Place, once a year, to offer animal sacrifices. God wasn’t satisfied with animal sacrifices, which is why they had to be repeated over and over again (because the price of sin is death). This system was a symbol pointing forward to something greater (Jesus).
Jesus is not just a high priest, He is the eternal High Priest. Instead of entering an earthly tabernacle, He entered the heavenly sanctuary and is seated at the right hand of the Father to intercede on our behalf. His sacrifice did not cover sin temporarily but dealt with it fully and finally.
Now Let’s Pray
Dear Heavenly Father thank You for the eternal sacrifice of Jesus on our behalf. Because of Jesus we walk this earth as sinners, and are fully forgiven and purified just by believing in Him. Remind us of this sacrifice daily, so we are encouraged to love and pursue Jesus and build our relationship with You in His name.
In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
