Hebrews 11:17-19 (NIV): “17 By faith Abraham, when God tested him, offered Isaac as a sacrifice. He who had embraced the promises was about to sacrifice his one and only son, 18 even though God had said to him, “It is through Isaac that your offspring will be reckoned.” 19 Abraham reasoned that God could even raise the dead, and so in a manner of speaking he did receive Isaac back from death.”
What is the Hall of Faith?
Hebrews Chapter 11 is nicknamed the “Hall of Faith” because it highlights men and women from the Old Testament who demonstrated remarkable faith in God.
This story is one of the most powerful acts of faith in the Bible. Not only did God ask Abraham to sacrifice his child, but Isaac was the child of promise. He was born miraculously when Abraham and Sarah were very old. God had specifically promised that Abraham’s descendants would come through Isaac, so if he dies, the promise seems impossible. Abraham believed God’s promise and trusted his character so deeply that he concluded God must be able to raise the dead. Just as Abraham is about to kill Isaac, God stops him. Abraham passes the ultimate test of faith and obedience.
Faith is not just believing God will bless you; it’s trusting Him when the blessing seems threatened or taken away.
Now Let’s Pray
Dear Heavenly Father thank You for being a good, faithful, and powerful God. Remind us that Your promises are set in stone. Let Your will be done on our lives in Your divine timing. Give us the strength to be obedient to You in all seasons, and allow this to deepen our faith.
In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
