John 1:9-12 (NIV): “The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world. He was in the world, and though the world was made through Him, the world did not recognize Him. He came to that which was His own, but His own did not receive Him. Yet to all who did receive Him, to those who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God.”

What is Spiritual Blindness?

Jesus, the “true light”, came into the world to bring truth and salvation to the people. Although Jesus created the world, He was not only unrecognized but ironically rejected by the people He created to accept, receive, and worship Him. Without faith in Jesus one cannot see God, so they experience spiritual blindness: the inability to grasp spiritual concepts that require the work of the Holy Spirit to understand. All who believe in Jesus Christ secure the privilege of becoming a child of God, and walking in His authority. Believers are gifted a direct relationship with God through Jesus.

Now Let’s Pray

Dear Heavenly Father thank You for tearing the veil that separated us from You through the sacrifice of Your only son. Thank you for illuminating the darkness we once walked in, and for continuing to pursue a people who rejected and questioned You. We ask for You to impress faith upon the hardened hearts of those who only hear but do not understand your good works. I pray that our community feels continued conviction from Your word to be more like Jesus and live in obedience as we carry our crosses.

In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
