Psalm 3:3–6 (NIV): 3 But you, Lord, are a shield around me, my glory, the One who lifts my head high. 4 I call out to the Lord, and he answers me from his holy mountain. 5 I lie down and sleep; I wake again, because the Lord sustains me. 6 I will not fear though tens of thousands assail me on every side.”

How Does God Protect Us?

This psalm was written when David was fleeing from his son Absalom, who had started a rebellion against him. Everything David had built was under attack, including his legacy.

God protects us from all angles, like a 360-degree shield. He hears our prayers when we call on Him, even from places of failure and exile. Even amidst chaos, God protects us in our most vulnerable state, unconscious sleep. It is His strength, not ours, that wakes us up and sustains our minds and bodies. Even though David has “tens of thousands” of people rising against Him, He remains fearless through his faith in God.

Now Let's Pray

Dear Heavenly Father thank You for being our shield when we are under attack, even if we don’t realize it. Remind us that Your strength is what sustains us, and that Your presence is stronger than all of our fears and attackers. We know that You hear every prayer.

In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
